September 30: Today we collection day for Student-Led Conferences. If you were absent make sure you talk to Ms. Nielsen about getting your artifacts for this class. We also talked about plot pyramids and discussed how a plot pyramid works. October 1: Today we read the first chapter of Percy Jackson, talked about simple sentences and received our Purple Percy Packets (great alliteration!) October 2: Today we read the chapters 2-3 in Percy Jackson and talked about compound sentences. October 3: Today we read chapter 4 in Percy Jackson October 4: NO SCHOOL!

September 23: Today we talked about similes and metaphors. Remember a simile compares 2 things using like or as and a metaphor compares 2 things without using like or as! September 24: Today we learned about the program MYAccess and started typing the final draft of our heart map papers. September 26: We introduced Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief today and discussed Greek Gods and Mythological Creatures.
September 27: Today we discussed the 5 elements of fiction; Plot, Setting, Character, Point of View, and Theme.
September 16: Today we worked on revising our heart map essays in class. We also took a quiz on the 4 traits of writing we have been discussing so far.
September 17: Today we finished talking about the last 2 traits of writing, sentence fluency and conventions. Don't forget there is a quiz tomorrow! September 18: 6 traits of writing Quiz September 19: SRI test September 20: Rise and Stretch September 9: Today we worked in class on the 2nd trait of writing; organization. We talked about writing good hooks (opening lines to papers and stories to "hook" the reader).
September 10: Today we continued work on organization and we discussed transitions. We read the story "Cat Bathing as a Martial Art" to identify good transitions in writing. September 11: Today we finished talking about organization by discussing conclusions. We talked about how to write good conclusions and practiced writing conclusions for 2 articles that had poor conclusion. September 12: Today we talked about using good voice in writing and the different tones of voice that could be used. We wrote a 1/2 page story about different prompts using specific tones of voice (happy, sad, horrified, etc.) September 13: Today we talked about word choice and using great "salsa words" in your writing, we finished the day by completing a write-up about your favorite toy from your childhood. *Don't forget to turn in your heart map and your heart map writing from last week! They are due on Monday (September 3)*
